New Records of Desmids from Blanket Bogs in Turkey

Abstract Peatlands are one of the globally important ecosystems. Blanket bogs a type peatlands where water is generally supplied by meteorological events (rain, snow). We have been conducting first detailed algal flora study blanket Turkey and found new records algae genera ever given for Turkey. Here, we report total four desmids identified as freshwater Turkey: Spirotaenia ( condensata , erythrocephala ), Mesotaenium macrococcum Hyalotheca dissiliens Bambusina borreri ). Their ecological habitat also discussed to highlight importance protection sustainability these unique areas.
